“Yo asi no juego mas”
(I don´t want to play like that anymore)
By Dora Korman Sterman & Hector Juan Presa.
Adapted for Mexico by Julieta Ortiz & Larry Silberman

Ten-year-old Martin tries to clean up his room at his
mother’s request. But the temptation to play overcomes his good
intentions, and the objects in the room transform until the most amusing
characters surrounding Martin’s life appear (including his schoolmates,
teachers, and Veronica, the girl he’s in love with). The game evolves
and becomes increasingly violent, as a reflection of the modern reality
that children are submitted to. But Martin rebels against this situation,
saying “Yo asi no juego mas” (I don’t want to play like
that anymore).
This book is a compelling argument against violence, competition, authoritarianism
and social disinterest.
