CHUNCHES, CHACHARAS Y CACHIVACHES
Written and directed by Larry Silberman and Perla Szuchmacher
Original music: Mariano Cossa
Lighting design: Valentin Orozco
Production: Grupo 55 - INBA
The following actors collaborated in the improvisational phase of the
creative process of script development: Montserrat Marañon, Carmina
Arcos, Gustavo Muñoz, Salomón Reyes and Rodrigo Vázquez.
This play was written especially for children aged 3 to 5, under the National
Program of Theatre for Schools in Mexico City.
The play takes place in a basement filled with things
that have been long out of use, which three janitors come to put in order.
While observing and manipulating the objects they come
across, these characters give free reign to their imagination in transforming
them, creating amusing and unusual situations.
With playfulness and humor, the play touches on themes
that are pertinent to children of that age, such as colors, shapes, sizes,
occupations, means of transportation, games that aid in the development
of psychomotor skills (i.e. up-down, forward-backward, inside-outside,
etc.).
Thanks to the continual coaching of our
team of teachers, the play has an adequate format for pre-schoolers, taking
into account the interests, attention span, and thought-structure of children
that age.

In accordance with these achievements, each detail of
the production was given special care, from the extraordinary dedication
and professionalism of the actors, to the triumphant production and the
very rich, varied and original musical band, all of which make “Chunches,
chacharas y cachivaches” highly attractive and interesting to pre-school
children.
“Chunches, chacharas y cachivaches” had its
debut in the INBA’s Teatro Orientacion del Centro Cultural del Bosque
in 1996, with excellent reception from the pre-school aged children (240
performances).
Due to the fact that the Program is given only
to schools and not to an open audience, there is no journal follow up
of these presentations
