“A Fairy In The Mirror” is the story of Mr.
Smith, a grey, shy and bureaucratic man who leads a colourless life. One
day, a fairy appears in his house. He is sweet and playful and he gradually
helps Mr. Smith to discover the real and happy meaning of life.
The story explains each person must choose and shape
his or her own life: the opportunity to have a colourful, rich, and intense
life, or a grey and dull one, is in your own hands. Another message which
the play relays is that, despite the fact that the characters speak different
languages and apparently come from two separate worlds, they can communicate
and form a link which allows them to grow together with the things they
have in common rather than with those which differentiate them.
The show's concept also puts an emphasis on the use of
space and objects, thus appealing to creativity, imagination and an affinity
to playfulness. All of this is aimed at children, in the hope that they
will identify with and emulate these characteristics in an age which encourages
them to play with computers and games designed by others, and in which
they are presented with pre-established and generally violent and competitive
models, rather than being given the opportunity to create and transform
the world at will.
- The play received critical acclaim in Mexico, Argentina,
Costa Rica, Cuba, Panama, and in festivals such as the Cultural Festival
of Sinaloa in 1991 and 1992 and the International Theatre Festival of
Habana, Cuba, in 1993.
- Recognized by the Theatre Communications Group
of the United States.
