Grupo 55

Grupo 55 is an association of professionals who specialize in playful and humorous theatre for children, youth and adults. Since 1987 the group has worked thoroughly and creatively in the development of shows that combine showmanship, entertainment and humor with original and vital content, while treating the audience as thinking, sensitive and critical people.

In the Artistic, Grupo 55 has taken part in numerous national and international festivals and has been on tour through Latin America: Argentina, Chile, Peru, Ecuador, Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Cuba, Mexico and the U.S., with excellent response from both the press and public. It has received diverse support and prizes from various critics’ associations. As a complement to its theatrical activities, the group publishes books and offers workshops directed to professionals in theatre and humanities, with subjects such as acting technique and youth theatre performance. Works from Grupo 55 include “I won’t play this way any more”, “The last one is a sissy!”, and “Useless to apply if you don’t fulfill the requirements", "Baby Love", Bad words", Upstairs in the sky" and "Sea of Silence".

In the Pedagogical, making since its beginning, workshops, courses and consulting to cultural institutions, independent groups, schools and universities in Latin America, USA and Spain.

Since 1996 it has trained and consulted the National Program of Theatre for Schools.

In the creation of diverse didactic material as drama texts, (“The last one is a sissy!”, “Noises and Strangers” and “Bad Words”, etc), didactic books (“How to make theatre without being discovered” published by the Ministry of Education, and some chapters of Theatre and Body Expression and Dance for the "Teacher’s Book" of Artistic Formation from Elementary schools that the Ministry of Education edited.

Thirteen productions, awards, grants, more than 1.000.000 spectators and 850.000 published copies of our books, warrant the solid trajectory of GRUPO 55
